Weekly update: LUDICOLO!

Greetings, Gothamites!

I have a new fixation. I have become obsessed with listening to US radio, specifically WKIT. I started listening to it because it’s “Stephen King’s Rock ’n’ Roll Station” but have found I love the old school rock and very American DJs. But most of all … I love the ads. As an Australian who lives in Australia and has never travelled oversea or lived outside of a major metropolitan hub, the ads on US radio are just deliciously cheesy. Jerry (Reynolds) is an awkward but affable worker in the packing and shipping department of a toilet factory. When he goes home though, he assigns the voices in his head to his pet dog, a loving and supportive buddy, and his cat, a crude and self-absorbed jerk.

The advice his pets give him is mostly harmless, until Jerry accidentally murders the woman on whom he had a workplace crush. The deeper Jerry gets into burying her murder, the more his own life and delusions crumble.

Corrupt and evil Belarusian President Dukhovich (Oldman) has been brought to trial at the International Court of Justice. The witnesses brought forward do not have enough evidence for a successful case and prosecution depends on the testimony of convicted hitman Darius Kincaid (Jackson). It falls to professional bodyguard and Darius’s longtime enemy Michael Bryce (Reynolds) to protect Darius from the President’s hired assassins … assuming they don’t kill each other first.

Nick Walker is a cop who has had a pretty rough day. He has struggled with his conscience over stealing gold from a drug bust; been shot in the face by his dirty cop partner; and been given the choice of Hell or a 100 year stint in the R.I.P.D.

Nick chooses the latter – it would have been a short and very boring film otherwise – and is partnered with veteran R.I.P.D. officer Roycephus Pulsipher. Their mission is to round up the souls of those who didn’t ascend and bring them in for judgement.

In the line of duty, the deceased dynamic duo uncover a plot to bring about an apocalypse that will destroy the living world. It falls to Nick and Roy to stop the people responsible for the plot and not kill each other in the process.

Albert Stark (MacFarlane) is a cowardly and pessimistic sheep farmer who has just been dumped by girlfriend Louise (Seyfried) for moustached man Foy (Harris). When the mysterious Anna (Theron) arrives in town she befriends Albert after he saves her during a bar fight. Anna decides the best way for Albert to win back Louise’s love is to make her jealous by appearing to have coupled. Eventually the ruse works a little too well and the pair fall in love. This is complicated by the fact that Anna is married to one of the meanest gunslingers in the west (Neeson).
