When high school teacher Richard (Haylock) is fired from a Texan school for being gay, he channels his inner storm and creates alter ego Bianca Del Rio. Bianca is hired as Richard’s replacement and exacts her revenge with a little help from her friends and a lot of help from her rolodex of hate.

I had been wanting to watch Hurricane Bianca for a long time but wanted to wait until I had seen the season of RuPaul’s Drag Race that featured Bianca Del Rio. I’m so glad that I did because having seen Bianca in her RPDR glory made me truly appreciate the talent and humour that Haylock brings to both Richard and Bianca especially since the characters being polar opposites.

I loved the plot of Hurricane Bianca it is hilarious and very entertaining, but also addresses real issues that are still taking place today. It doesn’t get preachy and it doesn’t sacrifice the story to highlight the injustices that are real problems in the world, but it still shines light on them and makes you think about the disregard of basic rights that are still out there despite how far humanity has come.

Dratch is so much fun to watch as Richard and Bianca’s arch-nemesis Debbie. Belli and Pierce bring a lot of comedy with their portrayals of Richard’s friends who fly to Texas from NYC to help a sister out. It is also a lot of fun to see cameos from the likes of RuPaul, Cumming, Edwards and Joslyn.

If you enjoy clever comedy films with sass and a dash of social commentary, then you should absolutely check out Hurricane Bianca.

“Well, I’m going to call you Bath Mat. Not because of that lovely vest you’re wearing.
It’s because I think you smell like feet.”
