A small town is hit by a stream of tornadoes in a single day. The event is chronicled by television storm-chasers, townsfolk, and thrill-seekers.

In terms of disaster movies, Into the Storm is well done. The special effects are fantastic; there are a lot of action scenes involving the storms; and the plot doesn’t move too much (understandable given it only covers one day).

While the plot remains fairly stagnant, there are some great redemption themes entwined throughout the story. The absent father and negligent boss both head down the path of redeeming themselves, but will they make it before the storm catches up with them?

Though I enjoy the majority of Into the Storm, I was incredibly disappointed by the last scene. I’ll keep this spoiler-free while saying that it felt tacked on and unnecessary. Not only was it unnecessary, but it detracted from everything that preceded it by changing the tone of the film 180 degrees in the last 30 seconds.

Keep an ear out for a reference to one of Sarah Wayne Callies’ other popular roles. You’ll be glad you did. I may have geeked out a bit. Pun intended.
